Plot

Tim and Millie are a couple who move to the countryside. One day on a hike, they fall into a cave during a rainstorm and decide to spend the night there. Tim drinks from a pool of water in the cave. The following morning, they notice that their legs are slightly stuck together, but dismiss the incident after separating. Tim begins to act erratically, experiencing frequent episodes where he becomes inexplicably physically drawn to Millie despite the couple previously experiencing a lack of sexual intimacy. However, as Tim regains consciousness, he pulls back, much to Millie's frustration and bewilderment.

Millie works at the local school where she meets fellow teacher Jamie, whom she invites to dinner with Tim after he shows up at their home. The couple recounts their experience at the cave, and Jamie explains that the cave is the site of an abandoned church.

Millie drops Tim off at the train station for him to travel to town for a musical gig, but Tim experiences another episode and drags himself back to Millie's workplace. An outraged Millie pulls him into a bathroom stall, but he kisses her and they have sex, after which the couple's genitals become physically stuck to each other again. As they painfully separate, Jamie spots them. Millie visits Jamie's house to apologize, but Millie dismisses herself after spotting a disoriented Tim mid-episode hanging outside Jamie's house.

Tim visits the doctor who prescribes him pills. The doctor informs him that a couple in the town has recently gone missing. Using the exif data from the missing couple's social media photos, Tim finds that the missing couple has also visited the same cave he and Millie fell into based on symbols he recognized in the trees surrounding the cave. He unsuccessfully tries to convince Millie that they would suffer the same fate as the missing couple. That night, both Tim and Millie experience an episode and their arms become partially fused to each other. Tim manages to prevent any further fusing after consuming his pills in panic.

Out of options, Millie painfully saws through their fused limb. Now separated, Millie decides to drive them to the hospital but forgets her keys at Jamie's house. As she orders him to wait for her by their house, Tim secretly runs back to the cave where he finds the missing couple, now completely fused together as a grotesque humanoid. Meanwhile, Millie enters Jamie's house, where the same symbols from the cave are found hanging outside. She finds a tape depicting a ritual taking place in the cave where couples fuse together. Jamie explains to Millie that she must complete the fusion process with Tim. He slashes Millie's arm, and Millie escapes after knocking him out.

A heavily wounded Millie reunites with Tim on the street, who saves her by fusing his arm into her wound. Tim takes her back to their home where they agree that their fusion is inevitable. They embrace each other as they fully merge into a single being.

That weekend, Millie’s parents arrive for a visit. They knock on the door—now adorned with the cave’s symbol—and are greeted by a seemingly normal, androgynous person.
